Mary Herschel Thames, LCSW

Mary Herschel Thames is a licensed clinical social worker with a broad range of professional experience. At the University of Mississippi, Mary Herschel earned a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee. She is also a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.

Mary Herschel enjoys working with people of all ages dealing with topics such as anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and sexuality exploration. She believes in using a cognitive behavioral approach to discover the strengths of each individual and how they can become stronger with positive behaviors. She has also worked to provide end-of-life care to patients in clinical settings and hospitals and served as a social worker with hospice services. As a grief counselor, Mary Herschel has worked closely with the McClean Fletcher Grief Center for many years, leading and facilitating adult and teen grief groups.

Mary Herschel is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), American Society on Aging, UMMC MIND Center event committee, the Human Rights Campaign, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Jackson.
